Did Isabella Rossellini Compare Plastic Surgery to Foot Binding?
With her haute Hollywood heritage, it’s no wonder that Isabella Rossellini has found fame in front of the camera. But although she’s comfortable with her appearance, apparently she hasn’t tried plastic surgery to keep her famous face looking young.
60-year old Isabella Rossellini has a famous face and is one of around a dozen supermodels that are featured in the upcoming HBO documentary About Face. In the program, Isabella reportedly compares current trends of plastic surgery with the ancient Asian practice of foot binding when discussing aging.
Another model, Carmen Dell’Orefice, who admits to having plastic surgery disagrees with the comparison, saying, “If you had the ceiling falling down in your living room, wouldn’t you go and have a repair?”
Whether or not Isabella sees plastic surgery as beneficial or as a form of mutilation, one thing is clear: she’s still got it.
The model/actress is set to be the face of the new campaign for Bulgari, shot by Annie Leibovitz, which has a history of choosing beautiful women to showcase its wares.
Isabella Rossellini Wonders if Plastic Surgery Is “The New Foot-Binding”
Isabella Rossellini is one of about a dozen supermodels featured in the new HBO documentary About Face. In the film, she discusses aging, and wonders if plastic surgery is the "new foot binding" for women. Carmen Dell'Orefice, who admits to having a few judicious surgical procedures, disagrees. "If you had the ceiling falling down in your living room, wouldn't you go and have a repair?" she asks. Meanwhile, Paulina Porizkova says that when she started out in the industry, models were told to take sexual harassment as a compliment. "When a 16-year-old girl is flattered by a man pulling out his penis, that's noteworthy."
Isabella Rossellini also stars in this new Bulgari campaign, shot by Annie Leibovitz. The supermodel has an accessories collection with the fashion brand.
I watched a program today that featured Isabella Rossellini, wow... there she was as she is, with no artifice. Intelligent, elegant, gracious, warm and beautiful, no plastic surgery, every line on her face clear to see. I decided she is someone who comes across as a beautiful person on the inside as well as the outside, this is a woman of substance and style. I feel like I grew up with her, I suspect many people feel the same way. In the eighties it was hard to open a magazine without seeing her image, there were her edgy film choices, she was unforgettable in Blue Velvet and then there was the Lancôme campaign which she fronted for so many years before being dropped by Lancôme in her forties for being deemed too old.
Here in France, we hardly see or hear of her any more, she has never gone out of her way to court the limelight, one gets the impression she makes her choices on her own terms, things she really believes in. As a woman wearing casual clothes and no make up she is a natural beauty, when she turns up the volume with make up, signature dark red lipstick and jewellery (this is a lady who knows how to wear jewellery). She blows others out of the water. Isabella is a lady growing older gracefully, she is a true icon and she was there all along.
